Everything from the movement we complete, the chemically enhanced food we eat, the refined liquid we drink, and many other environmental factors have an unbelievable negative effect on our body’s ability to repair itself.

This inevitably results in changes to the way we look, move and feel, and can lead to pain, disease and negative behavioural changes.

At Fit4Function, resetting the Central Nervous System (CNS) and then nourishing the body with multi-directional exercise is essential in resolving movement limitations caused by modern sedentary environments. The CNS uses all available information gathered from the environment in terms of sound, sight, touch, taste, smell, temperature, balance, acceleration, kinaesthetic sense/proprioception and pain, and then creates what it believes to be a safe environment. In this case we are discussing the safest way to move. However, this doesn’t mean the CNS is correct.

The CNS can only make a judgement on the available information. If you sit for long periods of time. The CNS will adapt movement to become efficient at sitting. This is what has become known as poor posture.  No matter how hard you consciously try to correct your “poor posture”, the CNS will inevitably win. This CNS adaptation to its environment ultimately changes the tension of the muscles within your body. As a result of muscle tension and/or weakness, movement can become restricted and/or stiff through areas of the body, forcing other muscles to take on extra work. This often leads to overuse, irritation and ultimately pain. Symptoms of decreased motion and weakness can be attributed to:

  • back pain
  • “poor posture”
  • scoliosis/lordosis/kyphosis
  • herniated/slipped disc
  • arthritis
  • osteoporosis
  • runner’s knee/knee pain
  • ACL/MCL damage
  • hamstring strains/tears
  • shoulder impingement including frozen shoulder
  • golfers elbow/tennis elbow
  • neck pain and/or neck stiffness
  • sciatica
  • plantar fasciitis
  • achilles tendonitis
  • reduced balance
  • and many more painful and/or restrictive movement issues

This is why at Fit4Function we take a unique and imperative approach of first “resetting the CNS” enabling us to access greater mobility throughout the body. Only then can we expose the CNS to “multidirectional varied movement” which ultimately incorporates several of the senses and teaches the CNS efficient and “safe” movement patterns. Resolving pain, stiffness and optimising movement function.

If you’ve experienced any of the symptoms described, the Fi4Function methodology simply makes sense to you or you have more questions please contact us by clicking the button at the bottom of this page.

The Three Segments

At Fit4Function the focus is on conditioning the three segments:

1. Thoracic Spine
2. Hips
3. Feet & ankles

By reconditioning using multi directional exercise to increase motion within these 3 key segments, we ensure that true motion is restored and the body can begin to work efficiently.
